Trena Burden has served in the Smithfield UMC Music Department for the past five years. She is currently the Music Director and Accompanist for the congregation. Playing the piano has been a constant in her life since the age of 4, and she has been playing for Sunday School or church services since she was in the 6th grade. She also has been teaching piano lessons for 22 years.
Trena is a 1989 graduate of Texas Woman’s University (Magna Cum Laude) with a Secondary Social Studies Composite. She also has 24 graduate hours in American Studies. Teaching has always been a great reward for her whether through public or private schools, at church, or during individual piano lessons.
Trena’s greatest joy is her daughter, son-in-law and adorable grandson who calls her “Ginny”, slang for Granny. Thanks to modern technology she is able to bridge the miles between them and herself through Face Time!
Trena’s favorite quote is: “Bach gave us God’s Word, Mozart gave us God’s Laughter, Beethoven gave us God’s Fire. God gave us Music that we might pray without words.” Trena honors God by sharing the gift of music.
